Family-raised German Shepherd Puppies

At Haus Mahr German Shepherds & Training, our goal is to raise puppies with stable temperament, confidence, intelligence, and trainability that serve as exceptional examples of the Kirschental bloodline.

We believe raising German Shepherd puppies requires more than excellent genetics. Every puppy in our program receives thoughtful early development, socialization, foundational training, and careful placement to help them become successful family companions and lifelong partners.

Our puppies are raised in our home as part of our family, allowing us to provide individualized care and carefully observe each puppy’s personality and temperament.

Puppy Development & Early Socialization

Our German Shepherd puppies are raised using the Puppy Culture program, a comprehensive approach to early puppy development that focuses on confidence, communication, problem-solving, and positive learning experiences.

Puppies are thoughtfully socialized with:

  • Adults
  • Children
  • Other dogs
  • Household environments
  • Animals and livestock when appropriate
  • New sounds, surfaces, and experiences

Our goal is to help each puppy develop into a confident, adaptable German Shepherd prepared for life with their new family.

Veterinary Care Before Going Home

Before leaving for their forever homes, every puppy receives:

  • Comprehensive veterinary wellness examination
  • Age-appropriate vaccinations
  • Fecal testing
  • Deworming
  • Microchip identification
  • AKC Reunite enrollment

New families receive:

  • Genetic testing information
  • Comprehensive written health guarantee
  • Trupanion pet insurance offer
  • Puppy care and development information

All puppies are registered with the American Kennel Club before going to their new homes. Registration paperwork is provided to owners at puppy pickup. Puppies are also eligible for registration with the Canadian Kennel Club.

Temperament Testing & Puppy Matching

At approximately 8 weeks of age, puppies are temperament tested by an independent evaluator. These evaluations help us better understand each puppy’s personality, confidence, motivation, and suitability for different lifestyles. Puppies are not placed until they are at least 10 weeks of age.

Our puppy placement process is not based on choosing the “first available puppy.” Instead, we carefully match each puppy with the family whose goals and lifestyle best fit that puppy’s temperament.

We welcome both experienced German Shepherd owners and first-time German Shepherd families.

Early Puppy Training

Before going to their new homes, our puppies begin foundational training through the Puppy Start Right program.

Puppies are introduced to:

  • Attention
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Targeting
  • Place
  • Recall/Come
  • Loose leash walking
  • Retrieve
  • Drop it
  • Leave it

Training is completed using positive reinforcement methods that make learning enjoyable while building confidence and engagement. Early training provides puppies with valuable skills that help them transition successfully into their new homes.

Responsible German Shepherd Puppy Placement

At Haus Mahr, we are committed to the lifelong wellbeing of every dog we raise.

Our puppies are placed as:

  • Family companions
  • Performance partners
  • Qualified service dog prospects

We do not place puppies for:

  • Bite sports training
  • Personal protection training

If you are looking for a dog to compete in IGP or other bite sports, we will refer you to another breeder.

Bringing Home a Haus Mahr Puppy

When you bring home a Haus Mahr German Shepherd puppy, you become part of our extended family. We provide lifelong breeder support, including training guidance from a Certified Dog Trainer and continued resources throughout your dog’s life.

Families must complete our puppy application process and travel to meet and take home their puppy. Because we carefully plan each breeding and produce limited litters, we recommend joining our waiting list early.
