Location

We are located on a small hobby farm in Southwest Michigan. Our dogs are raised in our home, not in kennels. They are treated as cherished members of the family. We are conveniently located within a two-and-a-half-hour drive of major metropolitan areas, including Detroit, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois.

At Haus Mahr German Shepherds & Training, our mission is developing confident, well-adjusted, and versatile German Shepherds that thrive as loyal family companions and reliable working partners. We are committed to strengthening the bond between dog and human by providing training with clear communication, structured guidance, and individualized programs that bring out each dogā€™s full potential.

Our Lines

Haus Mahr German Shepherds & Training specializes in Kirscental herding lines. Kirschental herding lines are known for being highly trainable and eager to engage, making them well-suited for active pet homes, service work, and advanced obedience. They typically display moderate, manageable drive paired with excellent off-switches, allowing them to transition seamlessly between work and home life. Kirschental herding lines are valued for their sound minds, resilience, and adaptability. We also have a few dogs from Czech working lines.

Lara Mahr, Owner & Certified Dog Trainer

Haus Mahr German Shepherds & Training is a woman-owned business. As a Certified Dog Trainer, Lara strives to strengthen the bond between dogs and their people through training that emphasizes clear communication, science-based methodology, and skills for the real world. She earned the Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) designation in 2010. This certification requires a trainer to complete a comprehensive course, written exam, practical training evaluation, and teaching assessment. It is recognized by veterinary professionals in many countries. Lara has participated in numerous activities with her German Shepherds.
